Max-Gear is a tough car gear oil and is known for its legendary properties. For example, it is used by supercar manufacturers Pagani and Gumpert. It is designed to maximize unparalleled protection for highly stressed gears. It ensures that gears run smoother, quieter, cooler and longer without overhaul.
Max-Gear is better than other gear oils because it combines the highest quality synthetic oil with proprietary additive technology, Royal Purple's Synerlec. Hardeman Motorsport recommends this oil for use in limited slip differentials for the highest durability.
The 75W90 is somewhat thinner than 75W140, so the 75W140 can withstand higher temperatures. The 75W90 provides a slightly higher efficiency because it is thinner. We usually use 75W90 in gearboxes (possibly with lock) and 75W140 in LSD differentials and live rear axles.
Can be used/recommended for the following types of limited slip differentials:
- Some torsens (if these creak in corners, we recommend this type of oil to try to solve the problem)
- Plate type LSD's (ZF, Drexler, Gripper, ATS, OEM, etc)
- Preload/pre-pressure lsd's
- GKN Viscolock or M-variable
- E-differentials, which are electronically controlled locking differentials with clutch plates as used by (Land Rover, Jaguar, BMW, BMW M, Toyota, AMG, and more)
In a normal (open) differential we usually use 75W90.
Royal Purple is on the rise in Europe and has also been used for some time in the Lamborghini Supertrofeo. And is the standard gearbox and differential oil for Pagani, Gumpert and Koenigsegg.
