?As close to original equipment as possible? is the strategy that has seen Otto Zimmermann thrive ? and naturally its customer, too. This also applies to the new steel hub brake disk that is available to customers since January 2018. It is installed as standard in some Mercedes types. This compound disc is patent protected from the vehicle manufacturer. Therefore Zimmermann has developed an own technique to combine the steel hub with the casted friction ring to offer a solution for the independent aftermarket.
Depending on the reference, the brake discs are designed with a hub in a plain version or with beads. Both types of the hub offer the advantage of weight reduction compared to a solid cast disc. This weight reduction leads to better driving performance, improved grip and thus significantly better driver control of the vehicle.
The two sides of the braking surface on all steel hub-type discs are not connected by ribs but by specially arranged pillars. At Otto Zimmermann, the design of the ventilation channel is always based on the design specified by the vehicle manufacturer. A ventilation channel designed with pillars leads to optimized ventilation and cooling of the brake disc. This is further supported by the high-carbon casting material used for the friction rings, which also contributes to improved cooling behavior. The casting specification is based exactly on the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
