Complete limited slip differential for the 335i, 335d, 340i, 435i, 435d, 440i. The price is with exchange of the original differential. Mounting is possible at extra cost. The differential is completely overhauled and then fitted with new bearings, oil seals and a new OS Giken Super Lock. This is the best LSD obtainable for these cars.
No more one tire fire!
The 335i, 320hp and 450nm, the 440i 326hp and 500Nm. Brutal figures for very fast cars. Unfortunately, BMW has chosen to maintain an artificially high distance between the M3 and M4, in particular by the omission of a LSD.
What's the downside of driving without a limited slip differential?
The power goes to the wheel with the least grip. When you apply the throttle with one wheel on snow, that wheel will spin. Also if you drive it fast and take corners, one of the wheels will have less pressure on the road because of the steering. This wheel will always slip under power.
And what does the limited slip differential do about that problem?
The LSD ensures that the power is transmitted to both wheels. So you will now accelerate harder instead of slipping one wheel, because the wheel that is pushed to the ground is also driven.
But I do not drift every turn..
That's not the idea. A good LSD ensures the best grip, so it’s less likely to oversteer (unintentional drifting). In motorsport drifting is not a goal, but a limited slip differential will give a huge advantage because it makes the car much faster and more controllable.
Why do drifters always use a limited slip differential?
There is more grip with a lsd, but when you intentionally keep pushing the throttle the car will eventually get into a drift. So initially there is more grip, and if you go beyond this grip deliberately drifting is more controllable.
What is the difference in reality with the same two cars, one with LSD and the other without?
Suppose these cars riding tandem on winding roads, the car with LSD will have higher cornering speeds and drive away from the car without LSD. Even with a launch from standstill or hard accelerating when overtaking someone, the car will have more grip and will accelerate faster.
What is the first experience of customers after installation?
What they actually always mention is that the car suddenly has a lot more grip and therefore feels much better. Also, a drift is easier to control, and the back of the car doesn’t feel that loose anymore.
Won’t I get issues with my electronics?
No, the car doesn’t "see" that you have a limited slip differential and will simply detect less slip on the rear wheels. It does not cause problems with traction control and DSC / ESP.
Will I get complaints from my leasing company?
No, there is nothing to see from the outside.
Are there quiet ride drawbacks such as noise or banging?
The first few hundred kilometers the limited slip differential can sometimes be somewhat rough (little squeaks), but this will disappear and you won’t feel the LSD anymore when driving quietly. When driving fast you won’t hear it either, but you will have the mentioned benefits.
