Complete limited slip differential for all F20, F21, F22, F23, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F35 and F36. All models, incl x-drive diesel, hybrid etc.
The price is with trade-in of the original differential including assembly.
The differential has been completely overhauled and hereby fitted with new bearings, oil seals and a new OS Giken Superlock clutch type limited slip .No more one-tire fire!
The 335i, 320hp and 450Nm, the 440i 326hp and 500Nm. Brute figures for very fast cars. Unfortunately, BMW chose to keep the distance between the M3 and M4 artificially high, especially by omitting a limited slip differential.
So what is the disadvantage while driving without a limited slip differential?
Power disappears to the wheel with the least grip. So if you put 1 wheel on snow and accelerate, the wheel on the snow will skid. Also, when you drive the car sportily and take corners, one of the rear wheels will be pressed less and less well onto the road by the steering movements, this wheel will always skid under power.
And what does the limited slip differential do about that problem?
The limited slip differential ensures that power is sent to both wheels. So instead of 1 wheel slipping, you will now accelerate harder because the wheel that is pressed to the road best of the two is also driven.
But I don't need to drift every corner....
That's not the idea. On the contrary, a good limited slip differential provides a lot of extra grip, so less quick rear-end breakout. In racing, drifting is not a goal, but a limited slip differential is a huge advantage and makes the car much faster and more controllable.
So why do drifters want a limited slip differential?
There is more grip with a limited slip, but then when there is still too much throttle and the car gets into a drift it is more controllable. So initially there is more grip, and if this is deliberately overrun, drifting is more possible.
So what is the difference in practice with two of the same cars, one with limited slip differential and the other without?
Suppose these cars are driving behind each other on twisty roads, the car with limited slip will be able to go through the corners harder and always corner away from the car without it on grip. Also when launching from a standstill, the car with a lock has more traction and thus pulls up harder.
What is the first experience of customers after installation?
What people actually always mention is that the car suddenly has much more grip and therefore feels much better. Also, a drift is more controllable, and it's not a sway like it often feels with an open (non-spline) differential.
Won't I get any complaints with my electronics?
No, the car does not "see" that you have a limited slip differential and will simply detect less slip at the rear wheels. It does not cause any problems with traction control or DSC/ESP. For maximum speed on track we can remove the e-lsd from the programming
Won't I get any complaints with my leasing company?
No, on the outside it doesn't show anything.
With quiet driving, are there any drawbacks such as side noises or thumping?
During break-in for the first few hundred kilometers, the limited slip differential can sometimes be a bit grumpy, but this will disappear naturally and it will then feel no different with leisurely driving than without a limited slip differential.
