A lighter flywheel places less stress on the crankshaft bearings and clutch because the engine revs easier. The flywheel is practically an extension of the crankshaft. The easier it gets up to speed, the lower the stress on the crankshaft bearings. Something that on the M5 is like two sensitive parts.
